I would remind people that thoughts are simply words strung together to make a sentence in our head. They are not facts or truth, simply thoughts. We don't have to do anything with them and if we allow them to just be, they often lose their power. We don't have to avoid them or push them away. They can exist AND we don't have to engage with them.

I would start with helping ground, bringing into the present moment. Then identify what the thoughts are and working towards externalizing them through different thought diffusion techniques. Creating space from these thoughts, through thought diffusion, can support with decreasing the intensity of the thought.

For me, it was (and continues to be) the opportunity to establish rapport with my clients and patients, in an effort to best effect behavior change though established trust and compassion for the individual's struggles and lived experience.

I like to remind people to take a pause between the thought and the action. Its normal for the thoughts to show up so try to be gentle with yourself. Take a pause between the thought and action. Teach your brain new ways to navigate the discomfort and try those first.

Eating Disorder Recovery Coach

My own recovery journey was a huge motivator for me to pursue a career in this field. The freedom gained once I was no longer consumed by constant thoughts of food, and the body was such a gift. I'm driven by a deep desire to help others toward this same sense of liberation. Life is about so much more than what our EDs lead us to believe; it's about embracing joy and discovering the fullness of our existence. I became a recovery coach to be a companion on this journey, knowing firsthand the challenges of staying motivated between clinician appointments. I saw coaching as a the missing piece, providing daily support to navigate struggles and put recovery principles into practice.
