Philosophy

Providing care for individuals who struggle with their relationship with body and food is a privilege that I hold dear to my heart. I have personally experienced the suffering of my own eating disorder in the past and, having found my way to recovery almost 20 years ago, I know this journey intimately and respect its powerful ability to transform one’s life. I take this personal experience and the passion is has inspired into my work as a clinician, vowing never to lose touch with the humanness of the struggle and the incredible strength and vulnerability of those who endeavor to chart their own path to recovery. Clinically, I draw from the theoretical frameworks of Family-Based Treatment (FBT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and the Person-Centered approach most frequently in order to provide patients with evidence-based care in the context of authentic, safe therapeutic connection. I believe in the power of relationship to support individuals in their journey towards mental health wellness. With behavioral interventions spanning from challenging core beliefs and thought distortions to exploring body image distress and past experiences that have shaped one’s relationship with food and body, I endeavor to help patients explore their experience from every angle. My goal is to foster patient insight, awareness, self-compassion, motivation, and behavioral change that bolster recovery. I believe that connecting a patient to their core values can guide not only their recovery journey, but also shape their life experience towards a more meaningful and fulfilling way of living. Finally, a core tenet of my approach is collaboration – with patient, family, and all members of the care team so that my patients feel connected to their process and supported across the realms of nutrition, psychiatry, and therapy.

Why VERY?

First and foremost, VERY is a program that leads with heart and is committed to supporting individuals in their recovery journey utilizing evidence-based care. The intersection of human compassion and proven methods of treatment aligns closely with my personal approach to eating disorder treatment; I believe both are essential in reaching patients where they are and helping them take steps toward a value-driven life with an improved relationship to food and body. VERY offers individualized treatment programs that emphasize collaboration between nutritional, psychiatric, and therapeutic care in an accessible platform that I feel enables patients to feel wholly supported in their wellness journey.
